The two records
BPC-157 has two registered trials verified as administering it, with 162 participants between them, and its furthest phase is 2. Larazotide has ten trials, 1,211 participants, and reached phase 3.12
Neither appears in the FDA's approval records. On regulatory status they are identical; on evidence they are not close.3
What phase 3 without approval tells you
Reaching phase 3 means a sponsor committed to a large, expensive trial. Not reaching approval afterwards usually means that trial did not produce what a regulator required — though development also stops for commercial reasons.2
That is genuinely informative and rarely flattering. A compound that was tested properly and did not clear the bar has been answered in a way that an untested compound has not.23
The naming wrinkle
BPC-157's second registered trial does not file under that name. It appears as Bepecin, which means a search for BPC-157 alone misses it and reports one trial rather than two.1
It is a small thing and it points at a large one: registry counts are only as good as the name matching behind them, in both directions.1
Common questions
Why is BPC-157 so much better known?
It is sold widely in the research-chemical channel and discussed heavily in fitness and recovery communities. Larazotide was a pharmaceutical development programme, which generates no consumer conversation.
Does BPC-157's low trial count mean it does not work?
No. It means almost nothing has been established about it in humans. That is a different statement, and a weaker one, than saying it failed.
Are the two studied for the same thing?
Both relate to the gut lining but were studied in different contexts. Sharing a broad area of interest does not make their results comparable.
